Summary
The Friends of the Earth Germany (BUND) Science Policy Commission has been the main think tank we had in Europe concerning science and research in civil society organizations and NGOs.
Active a decade ago, commission members Prof. Dr. Rudi Kurz, Prof. Dr. Vera Luthardt and Prof. Dr. Rosine Schnitzer published an important statement calling for reforms of science and expertise. These included expansion of science and research across environmental NGOs, such as through bundled capability and a dedicated research fund.
My analysis updates the conclusions made in 2014 as well as showing there are still reasons for optimism despite de-facto abandonment of the European Green Deal.
